The 2013 Ten - what went on?

Before I completely forget here's what I remember from the best night of the year...

The Rose and Crown
The meet-and-greet. A good turnout, welcome back to Matthew and two beer pumps running dry which meant Ben didn't get the pint I'd recommended. Sorry Ben, hope you enjoyed what you got. Pediction Champ Simon S drew the first question and the debate over Stuart's weight started here.

The Fox
Best behaviour needed in here. The 'guess who's got 50 caps for England' game took a bit longer than I'd hoped! Kev's question is best forgotten!

The Highworth
We nearly found ourselves in a birthday party but were moved on at the last moment. There are no scales in The Highworth.

The Goldfinger
Paul finds us in game mode. Matthew wins Kev's darts game and the pool seems to be a three-way tie between Simon P, Ian and PG. Tom Daley's 'Splash' is on the TV. Least said, soonest mended.

The Plough
Stuart's bizarre cards and pool combo game needs work.

The Globe
With Adolf unable to sing The Gambler his replacement steps in. Stuart dances to Baggy Trousers on the karaoke. He might not have got the hang of this. My highlight is all of us walking out mid-way through his performance!

The Saracen's Head
Stuart is flying now. He holds court with his £20, bottle and pound coins magic trick which, in fairness is good.

The King & Queen
Always lively but it does lead to the group fragmenting. Stu is now doing one-armed press-ups, perhaps to work up an appetite.

Rafus -These boys know their way round a curry. Great way to round off a night, Stuart promises to turn £500 into £5,000 by this time next year. Watch this space...

The 2010 Ten - A review

I was going through some old emails and found the below. It seems a shame to waste it...

A cracking night out I thought - my Highworth 10 round-up for those that couldn’t make it, or can’t remember it.

The Rose & Crown – The Kylie clan gathered while Leeds gave Spurs the run-around and the bewhiskered landlord laid the table for the Burns’ night supper, the smells of which drifted in from the nearby kitchen

The Jesmond – We learnt who enjoys gardening, that the British public have a terrible taste in music (Barbie Girl 15th biggest-selling single) and that Dave Beasant was on the bench the last time England were in a World Cup semi-final

The Goldfinger – Surprise pub of the night for me. Expanding table, Stu’s Play Your Cards Right and discussing the calibre of England’s World Cup Finals victims

The Plough – a welcome for Mark and Darts victories to me and Cookie

The Globe – Kev’s top World Brands quiz (Derrick Newman at 31) and Stu’s second card game which didn’t live up to the first

The Saracens – Dismissing social networking websites as 20th century communication tools and PG’s ‘person or place’ quiz crashing and burning.

The King and Queen – Premier League top scorers list discussed, memory fading now.

The Fox – Didn’t Stu say we needed to finish here because it was Highworth’s top pub now? So why were we the only people in there? And why did Stu talk to the bar-staff and leave us to talk to each other and play draughts?

Rafus – A very good curry to finish things off. Even if we had to pay for the ‘pizza naan’ and we needed sunglasses to look at Stu’s dinner!

We should do the Highworth 10 every year!
